Today s name is most probably a corrupted form of the Javanese words Lantas that means a fish grill and that finally gave this is land "Koh Lanta" In 1917, the name changed to "Koh Lanta" and the two main island together with 51 smaller isle became a small province of Krabi, Thailand.
